International Deadline: December 31, 2019 – The
Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest,
invites visual artists to submit works that incorporate the lens or
photographic process in some significant way, including manipulated and
INPHA is not a gallery exhibition. It does not require shipping works
to Manifest. It is an award-winning non-profit hardcover publication
with cash awards.
INPHA is open to a very broad range of lens-based and photographic
submissions. This is not just for ‘photographers’ and ‘photography’ but
also for anyone working creatively in a visual art (or design) field
with work that incorporates the lens or photographic process in some
significant way, including manipulated and mixed processes.
The International Photography Annual is open to any artist
submitting original works of art created within the time frame of 2017 –
2019 (the past three years). Artists in ALL disciplines are encouraged
to submit. Manifest is eager to receive works in a wide range of
applications with the qualification being that artwork submitted is
“photography or lens-based art.”
Note that artists who previously exhibited at Manifest or had work included in our publication projects ARE eligible to submit.
Open to any media applicable to the practice of photography or
lens-based work, including but by no means limited to traditional,
digital/new media, photography, printmaking, mixed media, collage, etc.
All are possibly valid.
Essays and other drawing-related writings (Optional separate call for submissions)
Manifest calls for scholarly, critical, and creative writing for
publishing in each of its three publication projects. Information about
this, and a separate entry process, can be found here.
This project will be juried by a 9-12 member panel of
professional and academic volunteer advisors representing a broad range
of expertise from across the U.S. and beyond. Jurors will not be expert
exclusively in photography, although most will be. Jurors will include
‘image makers’ and ‘object makers’.
In 2011 the INDA 5 was awarded a national silver medal award
from the Independent Publishers Association in their New York City
ceremony and the INPHA 1 followed it with a bronze in 2013. The INDA 8
took another bronze in 2015. And the INPHA 5 and MEAs10 took bronze and
silver respectively in 2019. These awards were garnered through
competing with books by such publishers as Yale University Press,
Harvard University Press, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum
of Art, and others.
Manifest’s books are distributed to bookstores across the country,
including museum libraries, and are available through Amazon.com as well
as at Manifest Gallery and on the Manifest website. Arts patrons,
artists, professors, and art students around the world collect our
publications, and our books are often used to supplement course work in
college level classes. Each artist/author selected for inclusion in the
INPHA will receive one complimentary copy of the publication.
AWARDS & CASH PRIZES
First, Second, and Third Place awards for VISUAL works will be
decided by the jury committee. Each award winner will have a brief
artist’s statement included in the publication.
There will be three cash prizes of $1200, $500, and $300 for first, second, and third place winners.… see more
