Environmental: Call for Works
By Manifest Creative Research Gallery

International Deadline: November 21, 2019 – The Cincinnati based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists to submit works which in some way address or reflect the theme of environmental.

Environmental awareness has crept, like a dam springing a leak, for over a century now. It seems we wallow from the depths of denial and personal narrow radii to the heights of generational concern, selflessness, and bright clarity regarding the situation at hand. What a paradox to realize that in order to live we must destroy the only thing that could sustain us. Is humanity truly a virus, insane to the point of repeating the same mistakes over and over expecting a different result? How can art and design play a role in illuminating the bigger picture, galvanizing resolve, or illustrating the task or questions at hand?

What does our culture have to say about our world moving into the Anthropocene?

Artists are encouraged to take a broadly creative view in interpreting the theme. This can include works that reflect how the concept pertains to people, ideas, animals, cultures, current political and social discourses, science, or even in the broader sense of Environment from a conceptual, imaginary, or theoretical point of view.

ELIGIBILITY & MEDIA
Environmental is open to everyone. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works which address the broad theme described above. Submitting works shown previously in Manifest’s physical gallery exhibits is discouraged.

Open to any and all traditional and non-traditional visual arts media.

JURY & CURATOR
Manifest’s carefully assembled juries of professional and academic advisors change from project to project, and have no collective predisposition towards any particular kind or style of art.

PUBLICATION
Manifest Press will produce a high quality hard-cover publication documenting each entire season of exhibits, artists, and works shown. This continues Manifest’s commitment to long-term documentation and dissemination of our projects, and the expansion of physical exhibits into a broader geography and time frame, while also bringing all exhibits together under one cover each year to create a better product which will be more valuable to the public, teachers, libraries, and exhibiting artists.

AWARDS & CASH PRIZES
The annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will result in the awarding of one significant cash prize ($2500) to a single work selected as the ‘best of the entire season’. Winner will be determined by a final end-of-year jury from among a pool of all top-scoring works from each exhibit’s jury process across the current exhibition season… see more

ENTRY FEE
$40 for up to four entries submitted. $5 per each additional entry. Fees are non-refundable. Number of entries is unlimited.

APPLICATION
Visit Manifest Gallery online to Apply. The online submission process is preferred. However, discs may be submitted (see details on Prospectus).

SALE OF ARTWORK
Artworks are not required to be for sale in order to be included in our exhibitions. Manifest Gallery will retain a commission of 30% of the sale price on all artwork sold during the exhibition.
